Also generates significant referral traffic to media as stories are Tweeted across the globe. Media use Twitter to increase traffic to stories, and for promotions.  Some monetization schemes include sales of Twitter ads, in the advertiser feeds live content into the ad unit via Twitter (see LocalMediaInsider's case study "Twitter Ads a hit with advertisers"), aggregating sports celebrity Tweets with news commentary into a sports app  (see LMI's case study on Twitter sports app here); selling services that manage other companies' Tweets, often through a central social messaging platform; and allowing paying restaurant Tweets to show up in the dining section. Background: Based in San Francisco, and created in 2006. According to Wikipedia, board members of podcaster Odeo were holding a brain-storming session when Jack Dorsey, then an under-grad at New York University came up with the idea of using an SMS service to communicate with a small group. The project code name was twttr, inspired by Flickr, and the five-character length of an SMS short code.  On March 21, 2006, Dorsey on Dorsey published the first Twitter message "just setting up my twttr".
